I was instructor of record for a section of this Elon University integrated/lab lecture. While the course was still in the process of development, and had a standardized lab format across all sections, I was responsible for leading my class through labs, in-class activities, and lectures on key course topics.
In this course, I led a weekly discussion section of 14-20 students where they were asked to engage in greater depth about the course topics and the way those topics interact with their daily lives. I led discussions about assigned papers, designed relevant activities to pair with that week’s course concepts, and provided guidance on their final projects.
“I really appreciated the safe space where I could discuss any questions I had or a new idea that I have not gotten the opportunity to experience and talk about. I'm going to miss this discussion section!”
“I really enjoyed coming to discussion and participating in the inclusive environment [she] created.”
“Chainey hosted a very engaging discussion section and helped foster a positive environment in which students felt comfortable engaging in dialogue about issues that affect our world. “
“I loved having Ms. Chainey as an instructor for discussion. She was very engaging, energetic, and helpful. I wish she could be my TA for every class.”
“I loved this discussion! Really helped clarify the ideas discussed in class and I appreciate the safe space where we could talk about how it affected us.“
“Chainey always thought a step beyond us and ensured that we felt supported throughout the semester. She took time to reach out to all of us regarding project ideas and provided an open line of communication for questions and feedback when they were warranted.”
“Chainey Boroski was a fantastic TA being very professional but also very understanding, and kind to her students. Having discussion with her and the group enhanced this class a lot for me.”
In this class, I instructed students on how to perform calculations and analyses of forest productivity, biodiversity, and stand succession. I also guided them through synthesis activities where they were asked to apply course concepts more broadly to interpret their results. I graded all written work and reviewed the assignments in class at the end of each of the four units, providing clarification on common misconceptions. I also held weekly open office hours to give students opportunities to ask questions.
In this course, I led a weekly lab session where I taught students how to perform statistical analysis and create data visualizations in the R programming language. These labs had approximately ~20 students. I also provided guidance on their final projects. In addition to this, I hosted a weekly “open office hours” (see Teaching Philosophy) which consistently attracted 15-30 students.
“Chainey was a great TA. She was readily available by email, and was always working hard during her office hours. She answered more of my questions than my professor, and explained topics in such a way that I could understand them. Chainey is very knowledgeable about stats, and her experience is evident as she teaches. She made the course enjoyable and easier to understand!”
“Chainey was by far one of the best TAs I have ever had. She never failed to respond to an email in an efficient manner and she made it a point to ensure that all students had their questions answered. She was extremely knowledgeable on the material and I greatly appreciate all her help.”
“Chainey Boroski was a fantastic TA, staying late at office hours and doing her utmost to help students understand difficult concepts and coding language. She was responsive, helpful, and informative.”
“Chainey was so helpful!! She extended herself many times to support students; I really appreciated the time she was willing to give to us to help us with our labs. Chainey was so selfless to stay past her office hours during the week. I think I speak for many students when I say that I don't know what I would've done without her support.”
“Chainey was amazing! I went to her office hours every week. She was always very helpful and was great at explaining the subject.”
"I went to several of Chainey's office hours and also found her to be very helpful and patient, which is particularly impressive given that she was often swamped by tons of stressed students."
